Review Scheepjes Bookazine nr 17 Patisserie
The first magazine of Scheepjes Bookazine I’m going to review is nr 17 Patisserie. This Bookazine edition is filled with sweet treats, such as macarons, cupcakes, little pies, and much more. Exited what you can find in this Bookazine edition? Read along!
I love sweet treats and I find it hard not to buy a chocolate bar, candy, and other sweet stuff. So this magazine is made for me, I just know it! My sweet tooth was screaming for this kind of Bookazine and here it is; nr 17 Patisserie. The sweet pies, mouth-watering macaron blanket, candy flower handbag and so much more.
The theme
The theme of the Bookazine is Patisserie; sweet stuff. Like bakery items such as a croissant, sweet little tarts, macarons, and other sweet treats that fit the theme. The bookazine is so colorful, every page is a little party. The bright pinks, mint greens, and yellows are melting off the pages along with all the deliciousness. The photos are as always beautiful and high quality.
The items
The magazine is one thing, but all the items that are shown; that is why we buy Bookazines so much. The bookazine comes with a total of 18 patterns, varying from fashion wear to amigurumi and home decorations. If you can’t crochet, no problem! There are numerous knitting patterns as well, and also a punch pattern for some really cute hair accessories. I’m a big fan of the ‘croissant with barrette’ cushion. Will create that one later this year as a fun decoration for our new bedroom, which I want to decorate ‘Paris-style’. The croissant will fit perfectly!
A couple of items you’ll find in the bookazine are – as I don’t want to spoil the whole thing! – a lovely sugar flower bag, brioche jacket, amigurumi petit fours, macaron blanket, and bonbon cushions.
Interviews with Designers
Inside this beautiful bookazine Patisserie, you’ll find a couple of interviews with designers who worked along with this magazine. The inspiring artists of this issue are Yokiko Mortia and Ulla-Stina Wikander. They share their story of how they became a handmade-artists and where their inspiration comes from. I always love to see the face behind the idea. Most of the time you only see their hard work and stunning items they created. To see the face behind the ideas and creating, is something that sticks with me for a long time. I admire those people for their creativity and they inspire me to come up with my crochet-ideas.
The yarn
The yarn that is used in this bookazine: Scheepjes Stone Washed XL, Maxi Sugar Rush, Whirl, Whirlette, Terrazzo, Mohair Rhythm, Truly Scrumptious, Scrumptious, Maxi Sweet Treat, Secret Garden, Metropolis, Downtown, Linen Soft, Organicon, Cahlista and Softfun. All yarns can be found online and in the bigger stores across the globe.
The patterns
Sometimes magazines, knitting- & crochet books and bookazines can be find hard to understand. In the Scheepjes Bookazine Patisserie, it doesn’t matter how many years you are knitting, crocheting, punching, or whatever. The books are for everybody and the abbreviations are well explained on the last page. The patterns are well-written writing and if you still find it hard, you can always subscribe to their Facebook group. I’ve been a crocheter myself for some years now, but sometimes even I find myself wondering how a stitch goes. Just Google or YouTube it or ask the FB group!
In the patterns, you’ll find a list of necessities you need to create the item. Such as hook/needle size, kind of yarn, if you need buttons and more. Not every item on the list is a must, some are optional as well. Just see what you need and if you are going to need it on the final product. This way you can style your finished item the way you like it the most.
If you read patterns in your language, stick to that. But the bookazines come in various languages. If you prefer English over Dutch for a sample, I would advise to buy the English version of the book. This way you can start right away with making the items you love most, instead of translating the pattern first.
My conclusion
Aside from my sweet tooth and that I wish I could grab those macarons off the pages and eat them, I like this Scheepjes Bookazine Patisserie edition. There are a couple of items I would love to make myself such as the Croissant Cushion, Bon Bon Cushion, Sugar Flower handbag, Clafoutis Shawl, and the petit fours. Every item in the book is very special and I’ll guess how long it takes until a friend or my mom comes along to borrow this bookazine. For now, it is the first in ‘my deck’ for new projects!
