Nowadays kids have all kinds of toys. Most of it is bought in stores and when it is popular, everybody has it. So be unique and crochet your doll for your kids. How fun is it, that mommy (or daddy) can crochet more items for their favorite doll? Today I share the ins and outs of the Basic Doll pattern, the complete packages to give you a kick start, and more.

My grandmother used to knit dolls for me when I was little. I had a whole family with a mother, father, and 2 kids. I loved to play with them. The only thing that bothered me was that the clothes were stuck on the dolls. They couldn’t change outfits like my Barbie. Today I’m a bit older, ow yes I am and I love to crochet. I wanted to create a doll that could change clothes, like my Barbie dolls. And even more: change the hair too! Today I share with you the ins and outs of my Crochet Doll Collection which is building up with new clothes, hairstyles, and complete dolls.

Basic Crochet Doll pattern

With the Basic Crochet Doll pattern, you can start creating your doll. Change skin tones, eye color, and more for your unique crochet doll. With the pattern comes a list of skin colors from different yarn brands. From Hobbii to Yarn and Colors, Scheepjes, and more. Pick your favorite brand and start crocheting. With the Basic Crochet Doll pattern comes the instruction on creating beautiful eyes. Again; pick your favorite yarn brand and colors and keep crocheting.

More hairstyles

In real life people switch hairstyles, so why not dolls? Because the dolls all have the same size, you can switch hairstyles between multiple dolls. Go for a blond look with a ponytail or brunette with long curly hair. Again; mix and match and your child will love that. Make hair accessories to fit with the outfit. That is also an instruction on how to use ‘real doll hair’. It isn’t that hard and you can buy the ‘real doll hair’ through webshops such as AliExpress, Amazon, and the larger hobby (online) stores. This hair is the same as on dolls like Barbie, Bratz, and more. The instructions are for free as a download.

Little tip: is the ‘wig’ too big for the doll’s head? Just add some elastic thread inside the cap and pull that tight. This way the wig will fit every doll.

Same outfit, different color!

Switch up some colors in outfits I created. This way you can also use a pattern multiple times. Add a little flower on the skirt or make stripes in the dress. Everything is possible, just let your creativity shine! Be aware that if you change hook sizes for the doll, you must switch hook sizes for the clothes. If you go up a size for the doll, go up a hook size for the clothes. Otherwise, they won’t fit. And always measure in between rows 🙂 then you know for sure it will fit.
