Do you have lavender or other lovely scented flowers in your garden? Stop throwing them out by the time the season is over. Save the leaves for later! Let them dry over a week in a sunny place in your home. In the meantime, you can grab some yarn, and a crochet hook and get started on a couple of easy-to-make scent bags. This way you can enjoy the scent of the flowers longer, and you have a nice gift for friends and family.

My garden

My garden is full of lavender, as well in the front and the back. This year was the first time the lavender came to a full purple color. The smell was overwhelming and I loved to see all the insects going away with little paws full of nectar. They jumped into the roses, picked something out of the lavender, and flew toward other flowers before they left. I love to watch the bumble bees with their fluffy fur and yellow paws. Anyway, enough about my garden and how much time I spend in it haha. Below you’ll find the pattern of the lavender bag I sell here online. If you want to create your own, feel free to crochet one. If you post it through Instagram, tag me along. I would love to see the colors you used and the scents of flowers you added to your bag.

Make a string by creating a ‘rope’ with around 40ch. Measure in between sessions. Pull the cord through the skipped loops of row 17. Your crochet scent bag is done. Lets start with the embroidery.

Embroidery

If you want to embroider a lavender on the scent bag, this is what you do 🙂

Step 1: with green yarn, make a little line around 4 stitches in height.

Step 2: with purple, go from the inside of the back to the outside. Wrap the yarn two times around the needle. Press the ‘bulb’ down and push the needle through the same hole back inside. Repeat this process to create the purple lavender.

Scent bag

To place a lovely scent inside the bag, you can do two things:

A: Make a scent bag by cutting 2 squares out of fabric. Sew them together on three sides. Place the lavender or other leaves inside, and sew the last border shut. Place the bag inside the crochet bag, pull the cords and you are done.

B: Buy some tiny jewelry bags, and place the lavender or other flowers inside. Place this in the crochet bag and pull the cords.
