Why Use a Crochet & Knitting Project Planner?

I know the struggle all too well—scribbled pattern notes on scattered papers, incomplete yarn details, and by the time I want to recreate a project… everything is missing! Important details like material lists, yarn colors, and stitch adjustments are lost. Flipping through old notebooks for hours is frustrating, so I decided to create a Project Planner to keep all my crochet and knitting projects well-organized.

What is a Project Planner?

A Project Planner is a structured document where you record all the key details of your crochet or knitting project. This includes the yarn used, hook or needle size, and any special stitches or modifications. If you are adjusting a designer’s pattern to fit your needs, you can document those changes too!

I save all my completed planners digitally on my computer, but you can also print them out and store them in a binder. The best part? When you want to remake a project, everything is neatly documented on a single page—no more guessing or redoing calculations. If you’re making multiple versions of the same project, simply assign them a name and code (e.g., “ProjectName-01”, “ProjectName-02”) to keep things organized.

What Information Does the Project Planner Include?

The planner features key fields that every crochet and knitting designer needs, including:

  • Project Name – Name of your amigurumi, scarf, blanket, or any other handmade item.
  • Made For – Who is this project for? Adults, kids, home decor?
  • Start & End Date – Track when you started and finished, perfect for custom orders.
  • Designer – Did you design it yourself, or are you modifying an existing pattern?
  • Finished Size – Keep a record of the final dimensions for future reference or sales.
  • Yarn Details – Type, brand, color codes, and weight.
  • Hook/Needle Size – So you never forget what size worked best.
  • Gauge Swatch & Stitch Ratio – Ensure consistency in future projects.

…and much more!
